Animal park

This is a must for the children and worth a stop for adults too. All is calm as the pink flamingos balance on one leg among the ducks, the chickens cluck and the sheep and goats warm themselves in the sun.

Rare animals…

One part of the animal park, including the duckpond and the deer park, is an inheritance of the tradition of animal parks as much as entertainment for visitors.  Nowadays, as well as showing friendly companions, the animal park also has farm animals who are part of a conservation programme for rare and endangered species in Switzerland.

In partnership with the foundation ProSpecieRara, Engadine sheep, several varieties of sheep from the Graubunden highlands, from Saas, Roux du Valais sheep, Capra Grigia goats, the Appenzell crested chicken and the Appenzell bearded chicken are raised in the botanical garden. The CJBG are committed to conserving Swiss animal breeds that have become marginal and are facing extinction.
